Outdoor Education Coordinator

Summary

The Outdoor Education Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the outdoor education program for Summer Camp students. This position includes a mix of responsibilities including program design, implementation and evaluation, as well as, teaching skills, and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Head of School, this position works collaboratively with the Academic Coordinator, the Operation department and faculty.
  • Manages administrative functions, including budget and communications, as they related to the outdoor education program;
  • Coordinate outdoor trips and activities, including identifying destinations, obtaining necessary permits, organizing transportation, ensuring safety and communications protocols and equipment are provided, organizing group gear, collecting necessary medical/health information and waivers, planning and purchasing supplies for food, organizing groups and chaperones, and developing common expectations and guidelines;
  • Collaborate and assisting Elementary teachers in planning and implementing class trips that support their classroom units, including collaborating and/or teaching lessons in advance of trips as requested;
  • Coordinate with outside agencies all details of outdoor activities (permits, scheduling, transportation, payments, etc)
  • Organize, catalog and oversee the use and management of an extensive inventory of outdoor education equipment
  • Provide outdoor trip information sessions for parents and students • Lead class trips (both day and overnight) and provide opportunities to ensure student involvement and motivation.
  • Plan outdoor trips for the summer residential program as requested.

 

Skills and Experience Preferred candidates will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience and/or education with risk management programs.
  • Three to five years of professional work experience in the field of experiential and/or outdoor education.
  • Experience developing curriculum and teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people, including students, parents, faculty and staff in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible with priorities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
